Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama has honoured part of his financial commitment to the senior national football team, with his company, Engineers and Planners, paying $2 million of a pledged $5 million to support the Black Stars’ campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The contribution forms part of a broader private-sector effort to boost preparations and logistics for the national team as they aim to secure qualification and compete strongly at the global tournament.
Officials say the funds will go towards player welfare, training, and other key expenses tied to the team’s build-up for the Mundial. The Black Stars have been working to rebuild momentum following recent inconsistencies, making financial backing crucial to their ambitions.
The remaining balance of the pledge is expected to be delivered in due course, reinforcing continued support from the business community. Ibrahim Mahama’s gesture has been widely praised as a significant boost to Ghana’s World Cup aspirations.
