Ghana’s Ibrahim Fuseini saw his World Athletics Championships journey in the men’s 200m come to an end after failing to advance from the heats on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Competing in Heat 5, Fuseini produced a respectable run, finishing sixth with a time of 20.66 seconds.

Despite his effort, it was not enough to secure one of the three automatic qualification spots for the semifinals.

The race was dominated by Jamaica’s Jevaughn Levell, who stormed to victory in 19.84 seconds, laying down one of the fastest times of the round.

He was followed by Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba, who clocked 20.06 to take second place, while Australia’s Gout Gout secured the final qualifying slot with a time of 20.23.

Fuseini, who came into the competition on the back of strong domestic form, had been hoping to make history by progressing to the semifinal stage of the event.

However, the high intensity of the heat left no margin for error. His 20.66 placed him outside the fastest non-automatic qualifiers as well.

While his campaign ends earlier than hoped, Fuseini’s time underlined his consistency and growing experience at the global stage.
