Ghanaian actress Hajia Haniya Rosemond Alade Brown, popularly referred to as Akuapem Poloo, has stated her biggest regret is taking the controversial photo with her son that led to her arrest and imprisonment.
In an interview on AsaasePa FM, Akuapem Poloo described the incident as her biggest regret.
The actress was sentenced in 2021 after posting a nude photo of herself standing next to her son on social media.
“I wish I didn’t take that picture with my son. That is my only regret. Out of pain and everything I have been through raising my son all by myself, and I am still going through it,” she said.
Akuapem Poloo explained that people misunderstood the reason behind the photo. According to her, the caption she wrote under the post would have given a better understanding of her intention.
She said the message behind the photo was to show the struggles of being a single mother and the unconditional bond between her and her son.
“That is how naked I came into this world and that is how I am raising him. If he turns out well in future, after I have spent all my money on him, and sees me on the street mentally unstable, he should cover me and take me home,” she said.
The actress noted that the post was never meant to seek attention or fame.
“It was a personal expression of my struggle as a single mother,” she explained.
Akuapem Poloo also talked about her time in prison and how it changed her life, mentioning that she won’t even wish that on her worst enemy.
“I would not wish jail on even my worst enemy. It takes your freedom away mentally,” she stated.
Now a mother of two after welcoming a baby girl, the actress said the experience has made her more intentional about her life and decisions.
She disclosed that she will never share photos of her daughter on social media because the experience taught her the importance of privacy, especially when it comes to her children.
