The Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association, Samuel Aboabire, has warned referees in his jurisdiction against accepting bribes.
He mentioned that he has received complaints about poor officiating and that he will take action against anyone found guilty of such behavior.
Aboabire emphasised that any referee caught engaging in corrupt activities, like accepting money to influence the outcome of a match, will be fired.
During an interview with Asempa FM, Aboabire stated that this initiative is aimed at preserving the integrity of football and addressing issues of bad officiating in Ghanaian football.
He expressed, “Sometimes, people call me to complain about poor officiating. While I can’t claim that the referees in my region are flawless, they are generally performing well. However, if I discover any referee accepting a bribe, I will immediately dismiss them,” he said in Twi.
Club owners and football officials have raised concerns about the quality of officiating by Ghanaian referees, which remains a persistent challenge.
