Ghanaian dancehall musician Stonebwoy has disclosed his intentions to consult Rocky Dawuni on how to earn Grammy nominations in the future.

In an interview on Hitz FM on November 28, 2024, Stonebwoy explained that it had not initially occurred to him to reach out to the multiple Grammy award nominee, but after further consideration, he now plans to speak with him.

“I haven’t spoken to Rocky Dawuni about how he does it because it didn’t cross my mind. But I think I should. I overheard a conversation between him and King Promise, where Promise asked him how he does it. I was interested in the topic, but Rocky said there’s no specific code for it. I’ve actually been speaking more with his manager, his wife, than with him directly,” he stated.

Stonebwoy added, “I think it would be professional to ask him because he’s a legend in the game and has been nominated four times. He can offer guidance that could bring you closer to where you want to be, but I don’t think he can tell you who the next nominee will be. He can only serve as a guide.”

He also mentioned that Grammy Awards are not as publicly visible as some might think.

“The Grammy itself is not like a typical public award. Even when the CEO of the Grammys visited Ghana, he spoke about how it’s not just about how popular your music is. Anyone can get a nomination—it’s not just for the high and mighty,” he explained.

When asked whether he released his ‘Up and Running’ album with the goal of winning a Grammy, Stonebwoy debunked the claim, stating that his focus was broader.

“I didn’t tailor this album specifically for the Grammys. If I had, I would say so. I made it for the world, so that people can enjoy it. If it qualifies for nomination anywhere in the world, then it’s at that level where it can fit into any category.

“My whole goal is to have my songs played worldwide and to tour the world. That takes more work than just being nominated for a Grammy. Many people have received Grammy awards but aren’t doing well in terms of international exposure. My main focus is for my music to reach the world,” he said.
