The New Patriotic Party flagbearer hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has warned his critics against what he describes as petty gossip fueled by propaganda against him.

Speaking at a party gathering in the Asokwa Constituency on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Dr Bawumia noted that some individuals have been spreading propaganda about his performance as the party’s flagbearer in the 2024 general elections.

“You have all heard them claim that Muslims in the Zongos did not vote for Dr Bawumia. When I heard it, I asked myself what the data says, because I also want issues to be grounded in evidence backed by data. This was a strong propaganda that was being carried all over, claiming that Muslims did not vote for Bawumia,” he said.

Contrary to the claim, Dr Bawumia noted that the data from the 2024 general election results paint a different picture of his performance in Muslim-dominated communities.

“But when I looked at the data, I realised that the story is different. In fact, we had more votes in the Zongos in 2024 than we did in 2020,” he stated.

Citing data from some polling stations in the Ashanti Region, Dr Bawumia reemphasised the strength of his performance in Zongo communities, warning that he will confront such propaganda, which he described as gossip, with data.

“The data across the whole country clearly shows that we did better across Zongos in 2024 than in 2020.

“So, why do they continue to perpetuate this propaganda? People are talking without data because they want to engage in gossip. You don’t need data to gossip; you just need to throw it out there in the system, and it will travel. But if you dare bring your gossip to my side, I won’t let it stand. I will confront it with data,” he stated.
