Black Stars legend, Reverend Osei Kofi has declared himself the best player of his generation.
Osei Kofi, widely called the “Dribbling Wizard”, stated in an interview on Angel TV that no footballer was at his level between 1962 and 1972.
He recounted that he was the only player who always had his jersey secured even before the announcement of the Black Stars squad during that period.
“There was no better footballer than me in my generation. From ’62, ’63, ’64, ’65, ’66, ’67, ’68 up to ’72, there was no better footballer than me.
“I always had my jersey even before the Black Stars squad was announced and I would say to them, ‘if you trust yourself like me, go for your jersey’,” he said.
The former Asante Kotoko star is regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest footballers of all time.
He won two African Cup of Nations titles and claimed the tournament’s top scorer award once.
The revered former footballer is often remembered for his magical performance during Ghana’s successful defence of their AFCON title in 1965.
He scored in the semi-final and led the Black Stars to a 3-2 comeback victory over Tunisia in the final, netting in extra time and assisting the winning goal.
During his decade-long career, he played alongside some of Ghana’s greats including Wilberforce Mfum, Edward Aggrey-Fynn, Kofi Pare, Edmond Acquah, Ben Acheampong and Ibrahim Sunday among others.
