There has been a perception that legendary music producer Hammer discovered a number of talents in the entertainment industry and helped shape them into successful artistes.

Names such as Edem, Obrafour, Sarkodie, Tinny and others are often mentioned in that narrative.

However, rapper Tinny has clarified that Hammer did not discover him.

In an interview on UTV’s Atuu show, Tinny explained that he sought out Hammer on his own and paid to record with him.

“I went to Hammer to record my songs. He didn’t look for me or discover me, I paid him to work for me,” Tinny said.

He recalled that he first became interested in Hammer after hearing his production on an Obrafour album and being impressed with the kicks in the beat, which led him to track down the producer.

According to Tinny, his first studio session did not go as expected because another engineer handled the recording instead of Hammer himself.

He explained that the outcome did not meet his expectations, especially since he did not hear the signature drums and kicks Hammer is known for.

“Later on, I realised I was working with the wrong Hammer. They were a group of two and they worked on Pae Mu Ka album together. Later I was home one time and Hammer himself called and I told him I was looking for him,” he explained.

Tinny, known for his Ga rap style, clarified in a previous interview on JoyPrime that he did not start out as a Ga rapper.

“Yeah, I actually started as a Twi rapper. I was doing more Twi and English than a bit of Ga, but I wasn’t a Ga rapper. You see, Twi is the most spoken language in Ghana, so when you’re doing something in Twi, you perceive that the faster it will go. Consider merchandising and market-wise, I mean it goes fast,” he said.
