Ghanaian dancer and choreographer, Laud Anoo Konadu, popularly known as Dancegod Lloyd, has revealed a chapter in his career which nearly made him give up on everything he had worked for.

Speaking in an interview on the Konnected Minds podcast, the dancer talked about the emotional turmoil he went through after leaving the DWP (Dance with a Purpose) dance group, a move that attracted heavy backlash from the public.

According to Dancegod Lloyd, what made the situation difficult was the fact that most people did not know the true story behind his exit from the group. Despite this, many took to social media to criticize him.

“When I started getting backlashes from people on the internet about me leaving my ex-dance crew, they didn’t know the story. I was disturbed, I was depressed, I was thinking differently,” he shared.

He described that period as his darkest moment because he felt like he had lost everything he had built over the years, including his identity, fame, and confidence.

Dancegod noted that at a time, he was worried about how the world would see him, and whether he could ever bounce back from the criticism.

“I felt like I lost myself, my name, the fame because I was thinking about fame at that moment. I was thinking about so I’m gonna go like nobody’s going to see me again. It was my darkest moment but my blessing in disguise,” he added.

The dancer shared that what eventually lifted his spirit was the support he received from people, including top people within the industry and family members.

He revealed that many people reached out to him with encouraging messages, urging him not to give up.

“I started getting voice notes from people. These were like top people. Some were calling, don’t give up. I remember my dad called me in the middle of the night. My dad does not call me at that time.

He will not even call. If I want to talk to my dad, I have to go through my mom. But he called me. He was like these things happen to the greatest. After that call, I was like, I’m ready for the world,” he said.
