Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong has revealed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) contacted him to play for the senior national team.

The Bayer Leverkusen wing-back was on the list of players the GFA planned to convince to play for the West African country.

However, the former Manchester City and Celtic defender opted to play for the Dutch national team.

Speaking to 3Sports, Frimpong revealed he considered playing for the four-time African champions when he was contacted but added that Holland had always believed in him, hence his decision to turn down the approach by the Ghana FA.

“I considered playing for Ghana, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) did make contact with me, but Holland were always the first one to come, and they were the country that believed in me,” he said.

Jeremie Frimpong, who is of Ghanaian heritage, has made 10 appearances for the Dutch national team.

He is currently in Ghana for the Christmas holidays.
