President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has addressed concerns regarding his absence during recent events in Ghanaian football, including the tragic stabbing of Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, during Asante Kotoko’s match against Nsoatreman on February 2, 2025.

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, during his visit to Asante Kotoko, Okraku set the record straight about his recent absence, explaining that his trip abroad was not related to seeking a spot on the CAF Executive Committee, as rumored, but instead was driven by a combination of official business and a personal health matter.

“When the incident [Pooley’s death] happened, I was out of the jurisdiction, not to campaign for a slot on the CAF Executive Committee, but to work for the FA and to address a medical issue,” Okraku stated.

His remarks come in response to criticism from some football stakeholders and fans who accused him of prioritizing personal ambitions over urgent matters affecting Ghanaian football.

Okraku’s meeting with Kotoko signals an effort to strengthen ties with the club and reassure stakeholders of the FA’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing Ghanaian football.
