Ghanaian Kumawood actor, Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, has recounted some of the ordeals he went through in the early stages of his career.

In an interview on Lawson TV, LilWin indicated that he was maltreated by fellow actors.

He explained that actors and producers classified him as someone who smells and wasn’t good at acting.

“In the movie industry, you won’t get it easily when you are new. But that doesn’t mean that when you become a star you should maltreat others. When I began acting, many actors did something that really hurt me. One of the big producers in Ghana looked me in the face and said I wasn’t good at acting. And when such a thing happens, I pray to God that he shouldn’t let that manifest in my life.

“One marketer also told me to my face that when the directors feature me in a movie, it’s a waste of time. Some actors would even use slippers to slap me on set. I would assume it is acting, but after the set, you would hear them saying how they wished they slapped me harder so I can’t even act again,” he said.

LilWin added how he was refused a role by a movie director.

“There was one director who came to Kumasi. In those days, before I was featured in a movie, I acted before taking payment. So, I worked with this particular director, and after everything, he would sell the movies before paying us. One time, he came back with scripts for four different movies, and when I charged him for all four movies, he told me he could only pay for one.

“Meanwhile, the marketers had told him I am not good, so if he uses me, people won’t buy the movie. Now, when I became popular, the same people told him to include me in every movie, or else people won’t buy,” he added.
