Former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko player Douglas Nkrumah has admitted to age cheating during his football career.

The former winger revealed that he played for Ghana’s U-17 team, the Black Starlets, while being 20 years old.

Narrating his football journey on the Gajio podcast, Nkrumah said he earned a spot with the Starlets after impressing in a friendly match.

“We (Midtjylland) played a friendly match against them and I impressed. At that time, I wasn’t even up to 17 (on paper), but in Ghana, no one is actually 17. That’s just the truth. “I was more than 17, I was three years older,” he admitted.

“In Africa, who doesn’t cheat the French? Even during our time, Kenya, who eliminated us, were later banned for age cheating,” he added.

Douglas Nkrumah had a brief stint with the national teams, featuring for the Black Starlets and the Black Satellites.

He remains one of the Ghana Premier League’s colt heroes, having made his mark with both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. He was known for his set-piece abilities and quick feet.
