Ghanaian gospel musician, ACP Kofi Sarpong, has opened up about the difficult moments he went through while serving in church before rising to prominence.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM on January 16, 2026, the celebrated gospel singer disclosed that despite his deep commitment to church activities, he struggled financially to the extent that he sometimes had no clothes to wear to church.

According to Kofi Sarpong, he was actively involved in almost everything that went on in his church and gave his all to the work of God, even in the midst of hardship.

“I put my all into my church and I was involved in everything they do in church. Sometimes, getting clothes for church was difficult for me. I used to beg for clothes and wear to church,” he said.

He shared that he often relied on the generosity of a friend just to appear presentable for church services.

“One of my friends would pack his clothes to wash, then I go and select what to wear to church,” he stated.

Despite the struggles, Kofi Sarpong said he never allowed his circumstances to affect his worship or attitude in church.

He noted that many people were unaware of the challenges he was facing at the time.

“Despite the struggles, no one knew what I was going through. I would sing and dance in church as if I had no worries. That’s what showed that I was genuinely worshipping God,” he explained.

He emphasised that he did not allow poverty to become an excuse for failing to worship God wholeheartedly.

“I didn’t look at my situation at that time to make excuses for worshipping God the right way. Those who were born into riches should thank God it’s not easy to be poor,” Kofi Sarpong added.
