Highlife musician Kwaisey Pee has stated that he believes the music industry has become significantly easier and cheaper to operate in compared to the past, largely due to advancements in technology and social media.

Speaking in a recent interview on Hitz FM, the singer contrasted the effort and investment musicians made in earlier years with the convenience enjoyed by today’s artistes.

“Our fathers were doing it because my dad was telling me a story of when they got to the studio to record back in the day. When they start, they don’t stop till they get to the end. There’s no rewind, cut and join as they do nowadays,” he said.

Kwaisey Pee noted that older generations, including himself, produced what he believes was more authentic music.

“For me, I think we did the real music. Promotion nowadays is just on social media. We used to travel to other regions and invested more when it came to promotion,” he shared.

He explained that the cost of producing and promoting music has drastically reduced due to digital platforms and large online fanbases.

“Music now is the cheapest thing to do. Now, you don’t spend a lot of money. Most of them have huge followers so they don’t pay money to radio stations and bloggers like that,” he said.

However, he admitted that artistes like himself still have to spend heavily on promotion because their fanbases are not as dominant online.

“Some of us are still paying, we are still pushing hard because we don’t have many followers. Our followers are not active on social media. When we record, we still have to come on the radio and promote it,” Kwaisey Pee added.
