Popular Ghanaian actress, Gloria Osei Sarfo, has detailed some shocking challenges she has faced in her career, including a bizarre incident where she was suddenly paralysed during a series of movie shoots.
Speaking on the April 12, 2025, episode of United Showbiz, Sarfo, during a discussion about spiritual sabotage in Ghana’s creative arts sector, shared that her journey hasn’t been easy, but she remains determined.
“I’ve had challenges; it hasn’t been an easy ride. But the good things are also coming, so they are outweighing the bad,” she said.
She narrated a shocking incident which happened years back about how she was suddenly paralysed when she had a gig to shoot some movies in Kumasi.
“I remember a time when I had a gig to shoot four movies in Kumasi. I finished the first one, and I had to dash to Accra to see my family and go then back to Kumasi to continue filming.
“Just as soon as I was getting ready to go back to Kumasi. I discovered I couldn’t move. I was paralysed for no reason. When that happened, my family members had to quickly pray for me before rushing me to the hospital. It was a sister who lived in Kumasi who had to send my luggage back to Accra,” she recounted.
She added that despite not knowing what had caused the sudden paralysis, she believes some industry players resented her success.
“There was a time a director told me they get sponsors only because of my name. So, many people felt like I was doing something. But it was all God’s grace.
“I remember when a colleague actress asked what at all did I do to secure my ambassadorial deals, I just told her it was all about my hard work and that one day, hers will also come,” she said.
Reacting to comments by gospel musician Cwesi Oteng about spiritual sabotage by colleagues in the gospel music industry, she said, “What he said could be true. There was a time when he was the biggest thing in the gospel music industry. Even the established gospel artistes were coming to greet him. All we have to do is to just believe in God.”
