New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has reacted to the dismissal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo by President John Dramani Mahama.

In a post shared on X on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Gabby declared his full support for Justice Torkornoo.

“I stand with CJ Torkornoo and with Ghana,” part of the post read.

Meet Daniel Ofori: The man whose petition got Gertrude Torkornoo sacked

The NPP stalwart’s post was accompanied by a video of Dr Joshua Jebuntie Zaato, a political scientist at the University of Ghana, which he described as “well put.”

In the video, the political science lecturer praised the former Chief Justice for not quitting after the government-initiated proceedings for her removal.

He noted that although Justice Torkornoo’s fate was sealed, her decision not to resign would not be forgotten.

“I’m glad and I’m happy that the Chief Justice is not a sitting duck. I’m happy and glad that she is not quitting. She’s not cutting and running. Her fight is a virtuous fight. Her fight is a righteous fight. And I want to see her fight this one to the very end.

“At the end of the day, she is fighting with honour, she is fighting with integrity. She will go, I know. But these rulings by the Supreme Court will stay. They will add to the general jurisprudence of these legal cases,” he said.

He added, “She will go. But history will not say that there was once a Chief Justice who did not fight when the whole might of the state was brought against her. Who did not quit when everything seemed bleak to her. Who did not quit when her own union betrayed and abandoned her. That she stood, she fought, she fought to the very last end.”

President John Dramani Mahama suspended Chief Justice Torkornoo on April 22, 2025. This unprecedented action, the first of its kind under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, was triggered by three petitions filed against her, alleging misconduct and incompetence.
