Ghanaian artiste Kelvyn Boy has asserted that he was one of the early proponents of Afrobeats in Ghana, saying his advocacy for the genre helped fuel its popularity in recent years.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on February 25, 2026, Kelvynboy said he has been championing Afrobeats long before it became a dominant sound on the Ghanaian music scene.

“I remember I was the one talking about Afrobeats a few years ago. That is what everybody is doing now. Yes. I was the one talking about it for years,” he said.

He added, “If I came back and say I’m doing the second step, you should know that I am bringing something new.”

Kelvynboy was asked whether the craze around Afrobeats has waned over time.

He declined to characterise it as a decline, instead suggesting that music trends evolve and can have peaks and shifts, much like other genres.

“I wouldn’t say it dropped. Reggae never dropped. There was a time Amapiano was everywhere as well,” he said.

He stressed that such changes are natural and can offer opportunities for creativity and innovation.

When asked which music genre he believes can endure globally, Kelvynboy responded simply: “Everything.”
