During a recent campaign event, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), highlighted the establishment of the Guan District as a noteworthy achievement of the NPP government. In an impassioned speech to supporters, Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to allow them the chance to “take care” of the district, calling it a “baby” that the party had raised and now wishes to assume full responsibility for.

“After so many cries, we have created the Guan district,” Dr. Bawumia addressed to the rally’s audience. We wish to care for this baby that we have given birth to. Give us the chance, you know. His comments were a part of a larger statement about the progress the district will see under the NPP’s sustained rule.

Bawumia compared the nation’s leadership to a car that needs constant direction in his speech, urging people to “hand over the steer” to him. He emphasized that his team, which includes parliamentary candidate Mr. Michael, is dedicated to fighting for the people. “I just want you to hand over the steer to me so that I can take the vehicle and we move with it forward,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia also emphasized that the Guan District was established because of the people’s aspirations for progress. “You wanted your own district and region due of development. We’ve handed it to you,” he said. “So give us the chance to bring you the development.”

Since then, the speech has generated a lot of public response, with many people posting conflicting opinions on social media.
