As the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary race gains momentum, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stepped up his campaign with a visit to the Bono Region, where he met with delegates in the Berekum East Constituency.
During an interaction held at the Berekum College of Education Auditorium, Dr Bawumia was received by an enthusiastic crowd of delegates who pledged their full support for his candidacy in the upcoming January 31, 2026, primaries.
A report by 3news.com on October 26, 2025, indicated that delegates in Berekum East who previously voted against Dr Bawumia in the 2023 NPP presidential election have vowed to back him this time.

The NPP Constituency Chairman, Kwaku Kamkam, assured that delegates have learned from their past decision and will vote overwhelmingly in favour of the Vice President.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Bawumia urged delegates to stand firm behind him and disregard rumours questioning his competence and performance.
He dismissed claims, labelling him the “worst performing flagbearer” in the 2024 elections, describing such statements as false and baseless.
Dr Bawumia argued that, historically, his 41 percent performance in the last national elections makes him the best-performing NPP presidential candidate, citing comparisons from the eras of Professor Adu Boahen and President John Agyekum Kufuor.
He accused his detractors of spreading misinformation due to fear of his strong standing within the party.
