Ghanaian gospel musician Nhyira Betty has revealed that she once believed wearing Brazilian hair was associated with witchcraft.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on October 30, 2025, the gospel singer shared how her perception of appearance and fashion has evolved over the years.

“If you’re a musician, you have to be dynamic. Follow the trends and the era, see what others are doing, and learn. At first, I didn’t like dressing up,” she said.

Nhyira Betty recounted how a woman who helped her travel abroad once bought her a Brazilian wig, but she initially refused to wear it because of her beliefs at the time.

“A woman who helped me travel abroad bought a Brazilian wig for me, but I said it’s witches’ hair, so I didn’t use it. The woman took me to a shop to buy dresses, but I told her that if I wore those kinds of clothes, I wouldn’t go to heaven, so I didn’t take them,” she stated.

The singer explained that after attending a few events, she realized her earlier perceptions were misguided and decided to change her lifestyle on her own.

“I went to a couple of events and realized I’d been mistaken. No one even told me to change my lifestyle, I changed on my own, and I always thank God for the life of that woman,” she shared.

Nhyira Betty added that, as a minister of the gospel, one’s appearance is important because it influences how people receive the message.

“When you’re in ministry, you deal with people, and your appearance should be pleasing to them,” she added.
