Former Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has refuted reports in the media that he said the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), which is led by its Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, posted a loss of about $214 million.

During a recent panel discussion on UTV, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, asked the former Information Minister to clarify the remarks he made about the supposed losses posted by GoldBod at a press conference of the Minority Caucus in Parliament.

“You have said something that has made me happy. You said at your press conference you never said Sammy Gyamfi’s Gold Board has made losses,” he said.

Oppong Nkrumah retorted, saying that what he stated was that the losses were incurred “between the interaction of the Bank of Ghana” and the Gold Board.

“You can watch the entire video; I was the one who addressed the press conference. We raised four issues, and I have listed them.

“I said that we have made losses between $214 million and $300 million based on the interaction between the Bank of Ghana and GoldBod. And we even brought in a company nobody has heard of – Bawa Rock. This is what we said,” he said.

He asserted that he never made that remark, adding that those claiming he made such statements are “just setting their own questions and answering them.”

Eric Opoku then said, “So at your press conference, you never said GoldBod has made losses, people are just saying it. I agree with you.”
