Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Flagbearer hopeful, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has come out strongly against a misleading publication by Opera News, which falsely claimed he had described former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration as the “worst in Ghana’s history.”

The article, widely circulated online, alleged that Agyepong made those comments during an interview on Asempa FM last week.

However, in a sharp rebuttal issued on September 7, 2025, he described the report as baseless, malicious, and a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation.

In a statement to the media, Agyepong clarified that his last appearance on Asempa FM was on July 29, 2025, immediately after officially announcing his bid for the NPP Flagbearership.

At no point during that interview, he stressed, did he utter the words attributed to him by Opera News.

“This is the third time I have seen fabricated reports from this portal. I want to make it clear to the public and the NPP fraternity that I have never described the government of President Nana Akufo-Addo in such terms. I remain guided by my principles of respect and decorum in public discourse,” he emphasised.

Expressing disappointment, he said it was disturbing that an online platform would deliberately peddle falsehoods at a time when the country’s democratic space calls for responsible journalism and factual reporting.

Agyepong urged the public to disregard the fabricated publication, describing it as a ploy to sow confusion and division within the NPP.

He further called on media regulators to hold such portals accountable for spreading misinformation under the guise of journalism.

“I remain focused on my vision for the future of Ghana and the NPP. My campaign is built on truth, integrity, and service. No amount of false reporting will derail me from that mission,” he added.
