Singer, Sista Afia, has admitted that despite years of hard work and sacrifices, she feels she may never be a favourite in the music industry.

Speaking on the Delay Show, the “Jeje” hitmaker said that since she released her 2018 hit song, which featured Shatta Wale, she realised that being a favourite in the industry might never happen for her.

Why Sista Afia has not been in a ‘committed’ relationship for nearly a decade

According to her, she has personally financed her career from the start, without relying on external support, but the lack of acceptance makes her question whether it has all been worth it.

“Since I released ‘Jeje,’ was when I realised that I may never be a favourite in the industry. I’ve invested so much effort and funded everything with my own money. If I had saved that money, I would have likely achieved more by now. It’s frustrating because I put my heart and soul into each project, even spending my last penny on a music video, because you don’t know which song might blow,” she said.

I have been heartbroken several times – Sista Afia on relationship journey

When host, Delay, pressed her on why she felt disliked in the industry, Sista Afia noted that one of the reasons she considers it so is because of her background.

She said unlike some of her peers who grew up in the slums and later rose to fame, she believes her return to Ghana from abroad may have created an impression that she doesn’t deserve a place in the industry.

“Many thoughts cross my mind. Sometimes, I wonder if my background is a factor; it seems people tend to prefer artistes who come from the slums, those who were once unknown and then became popular. Some people say, ‘Afia comes from abroad, so why is she trying to make music here?’” she explained.
