Nigerian skitmaker and content creator Meshkiey has spoken out about a recent uncomfortable experience with fans.
Sharing on X (Twitter), he revealed that at Tacha’s Guinness World Record attempt, two different women approached and hugged him without his permission, leaving him unsettled.
He went on to express that even handshakes with strangers often feel intrusive to him, making unexpected hugs and physical contact even more unsettling.
“But Someone (a lady) even grabbed me by my arm, and that made me very uncomfortable. Had to force my way out of her hand cos she was beginning to say stuff I didn’t understand. Let’s not be razz now. Please, there are several other comported ways to go about these. I love you, but please don’t startle me or touch me weirdly without consent. This should be really sensitive.” He wrote.
Meshkiey addressed the behavior as inappropriate, urging fans and the public to be more aware of how they engage with public figures and others in general.
The post has sparked a conversation online about fans’ behavior and the often-overlooked importance of consent in casual public interactions.
Below are some of the comments;
“If you feel comfortable about hugs especially as some persons are misusing this opportunity. I think going forward you should always extend handshakes to your fans even if the other suggests a hug.”
“It is more polite to ask “please can I get a hug” if you guys are strangers. Always extend handshakes in order to avoid such surprises.”
“Hugs are really personal, not what you should receiving from random strangers especially without consent.”
