Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku-Pitcher, has revealed that she only joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a few months before the 2024 general elections.
In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM on April 12, 2025, Danku-Pitcher said she was initially supporting community initiatives on her own.
However, frustrations with the then New Patriotic Party (NPP) government pushed her to fully engage in politics.
“I used to support people in my community. I was just out of my way trying to support people who are working towards change. But then I was being stressed because of the government at that time.
“So it was until I got to a point I was like, ‘No, I can’t be suffering and keeping quiet. That was when I got into it properly and registered,” she stated.
Asked about what attracted her to the NDC, Kafui Danku-Pitcher praised the party for creating opportunities, especially for young people and women, as well as its progressive stance on female leadership.
“They give a lot of opportunities to younger people and women as well. In our 50, almost 68 years of whatever, nobody has come up strongly to say a female should lead.
“Even based on what we see in our homes, how women are still being treated in some parts of Ghana in 2025, for somebody to come and say, ‘no, this woman is qualified; this woman can do it.’ That is so attractive. Telling the little girls or the women that you can do it, you can do better,” she said.
