Ever since the Majority in Parliament announced plans by the government to change the name of Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport, many Ghanaians have shared their views on the matter.

Among the notable personalities who have commented on the topic, which has become a national debate, is Ghanaian dancehall musician Stonebwoy.

In a post shared on X on February 4, 2026, Stonebwoy stated that he has no problem with the government changing the name of Kotoka International Airport if it would contribute to the betterment of the country.

“I believe the reasons are clear and politically accurate. The reasons are very nationalistic, I believe. However, if this change does not reflect any form of upliftment, then I wouldn’t support it. But if it is going to reflect upliftment and project a positive narrative about this nation, I am for it,” he said.

Stonebwoy further noted that if the government intends to change the name of the airport, it should be for a compelling reason.

He added that Kotoka may have done something positive for the nation, which could be why the airport was named after him.

Stonebwoy explains why clash culture is not popular in Ghana

“I don’t want to dig into it too much because I don’t believe one human being can be entirely evil throughout their life. There must be some good aspects.

“So, for the fact that the airport was named after him, it may have been because of those good parts. You know what I’m saying? So if the name has to be changed, then let it be changed for another good reason,” he added.
