Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Ali Jarra, has voiced his concern about being neglected by the state after suffering a career-ending injury while serving the nation for several years.

According to him, he sustained a serious injury that ended his football career thirty-two years ago while playing for the national team.

However, there has been no support from the state or any national football governing body to ensure he recovers fully, so he had to deal with it personally.

In a Facebook post shared on July 29, 2025, Jarra noted that he has been through pain and made many sacrifices during the recuperation process, deeming it an injustice.

“It has been 32 long years since the unfortunate incident that changed my life forever while serving in the line of duty. Throughout these decades, I have carried the weight of that day — the pain, the sacrifice, and the silence. Yet, despite everything, the state has turned its back, leaving me forgotten and unheard. All I ever wanted was acknowledgment, justice, and a sign that my sacrifice mattered. Instead, I have been met with neglect and indifference,” he wrote.

He called on the government and other football governing bodies in the country to give him recognition and some support.

“After all these years, my hope is fading, but my story remains. Let my story be heard. Let the state finally recognise the price paid by those who serve. With a heavy heart but unwavering hope,” he added.

Jarra is one of Ghana’s finest goalkeepers in history.

He was a gold medalist in the 1991 U17 tournament in Italy, a silver medalist in the 1993 U20 World Cup in Australia, a gold medalist in the 1993 Mauritius African Cup, and a silver medalist in the 1993 World Cup in Japan.
