The Coordinator of the Black Star Experience, Rex Omar, has dismissed claims that the upcoming Black Star Experience concert was deliberately scheduled to coincide with Stonebwoy’s annual BHIM Concert on December 26, 2025.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, Rex Omar explained that the event date had not been finalised when initial plans were made.
According to him, the team had proposed three possible dates before settling on December 26.
“What happened was that the date was never finalised. We had proposed three different dates for the event, and the final date was agreed on the 26th. So, when the calendar came out indicating that the event would take place on the 29th, I quickly made them correct the mistake,” he clarified.
Rex Omar dismissed suggestions that the timing of the concert was an attempt to undermine Stonebwoy, insisting he was unaware of the BHIM Concert date at the time the Black Star Experience was confirmed.
“So, all this talk of the event being an act of sabotage against Stonebwoy is false. I didn’t even know Stonebwoy had his show on the 26th,” he said.
‘Black Star Experience has no issue with any artiste’ – Rex Omar clarifies
Addressing further speculations, Omar said that the Independence Square was always the intended venue since it was the only space capable of accommodating the scale of the event.
He also noted that the event would not be free due to the lack of government funding.
“We were all here when the president said that the budget allocation for the Black Star Experience would be for next year. But I cannot just sit down and say that because there’s no budgetary allocation, we can’t host anything. So, the event is ticketed to ensure that we get some funding,” he explained.
The debate over the event’s timing reignited after earlier rumours in 2025 suggested that Stonebwoy had offered to collaborate with the Black Star Experience but was turned down.
However, Rex Omar had already clarified in a September 5 interview with GhanaWeb that the artiste had never formally approached the Secretariat and that no collaboration request had been rejected.
With both major shows now set for December 26, fans are hopeful that the two events can coexist peacefully during the festive season.
