Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Fella Makafui

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Fella Makafui, has shared the story of how she was removed from the popular television series YOLO.

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Ghana, Fella opened up about how she landed the role of Serwaa in YOLO and why she initially resisted playing the character.

“YOLO was my major break. There’s actually a funny story behind how I ended up playing Serwaa. When I went for the audition, I auditioned for the role of Emily, which was the one I really wanted. Later, I got a call saying I had been selected, but I was going to play Serwaa instead,” she said.

According to Fella, she was hesitant about the role because it reminded her too much of her past.

“I didn’t like it at all. I had spent years helping my mother sell bread, and now I had to play a bread seller again? I told them I wouldn’t do it. There was a lot of back and forth until my sister advised me to just give it a try. Funny enough, the first scene we shot had to be reshot because I frowned throughout, it really wasn’t what I wanted” she stated.

When asked why she wasn’t featured in the final season of YOLO, Fella responded: “I got kicked out.”

Despite the setback, Fella said she used the opportunity to pivot into business. She launched her fashion brand, Fella Clothing, shortly after leaving the show, and later ventured into the wine and liquor business.

However, she admitted that not every business aligns with her lifestyle or personality.

“Over the years, I’ve learned that you need to do business you’re truly passionate about. The wine and liquor business just isn’t for me. I don’t go out much, and in that line of business, you need to be social, going out, mingling with ballers, and promoting your products. That’s not me,” she stated.
