Triple Ghanaian Olympian, Reverend Osei Kofi, has voiced his frustration over the lack of recognition despite his immense contributions to the country.

A pivotal figure in Ghanaian football, Osei Kofi played a crucial role in the Black Stars’ success, securing the AFCON title three times in 1963, 1965, and 1982.

In an interview, the three-time Ghana Premier League champion pointed to how Real Madrid honoured their legendary player, Alfredo Di Stefano, by naming one of their stadiums after him, giving him global recognition.

Osei Kofi expressed his desire for a similar tribute to be made in Ghana for former footballers who have greatly contributed to the Black Stars’ success on the international stage.

“Real Madrid honoured me with a match at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium. They made me feel like a legend. I asked myself, ‘When will I be honoured with a stadium in Ghana when I saw the Di Stéfano Stadium,” he told Sporty FM after receiving recognition from Real Madrid as one of Africa’s legendary football players.

Osei Kofi, who was the joint-top scorer of the 1965 Africa Cup of Nations held in Tunisia, and the third-highest scorer in the 1968 edition, hopes such acknowledgement will inspire future generations.
