Former Asante Kotoko forward, Charles Taylor, has delivered a stinging assessment of the Porcupine Warriors, questioning their readiness for continental football.

Taylor’s comments come at a time when hopes around the club are beginning to fade. Kotoko had secured a return to Africa by winning the FA Cup, a victory that gave supporters fresh belief.

That optimism only grew when the team defeated South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs, on penalties in the Toyota Cup, a result seen as a major confidence boost ahead of the 2025/26 season.

But the euphoria has quickly fizzled out after a woeful campaign in the GHALCA Top 4 tournament, where Kotoko lost all three matches, including a bitter 2-0 defeat to arch-rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak.

In a post shared by journalist, Gary Al Smith, Taylor voiced his frustrations, insisting the club lacks the drive and focus needed to compete at the highest level.

“I don’t see any seriousness in the team, considering their output at the just-ended GHALCA Top 4. I saw a lot of blunders; the players were just playing for playing sake. A lot of things must change before the competition starts,” he said.

He, however, urged the club to up their momentum before their journey in the CAF Confederation Cup starts.

“Asante Kotoko must improve their game before the Africa campaign. As a lifelong Kotoko fan and former player, I will urge the team to step up if they are to make an impact in the competition,” he added.

Kotoko will represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup and have been drawn against Nigeria’s Kwara United in the preliminary round.
