After severing the head of his girlfriend, Timileyin Ajayi, a gospel singer, has bluntly stated that he has no regrets whatsoever.
Timileyin was caught near a church building swamped with flies and holding a polythene bag that contained the ‘chopped head’ of his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu.
The flies that accompanied him, along with the polybag and his overall demeanour drew suspicions, thereby leading to him being caught.
Eyewitnesses raised the alarm and alerted the police, resulting in his arrest.
However, in the aftermath of his arrest, one might have expected him to express remorse, but he appears not remorseful.
When asked why he doesn’t feel guilty about his actions, Timileyin explained that his act was a retaliation for his girlfriend’s infidelity.
He said he caught his girlfriend “sex-chatting” with several men on her phone, and that was what led him to carry out the act as payback.
“She was always cheating; she hid most of the things from me most times. I saw her phone and I saw most of the chat with the other guys,” he said.
The interviewer then asked, “So, that’s why you decided to kill her?”
Timileyin responded, “Yes, and I don’t have any regrets, because life is reciprocal.”
Subsequently, the other dismembered parts of his girlfriend’s body were alleged to have been later recovered in his home.
The 24-year-old deceased was identified as a member of the National Youth Service Corps who was serving in the federal capital, Abuja.
What the deceased’s family and close associates have said about the incident
The late Salome Adaidu’s family has urged the government to thoroughly investigate and prosecute those responsible for her death.
A friend of the deceased, Abby Simon, in an earlier interview with the BBC, said it was a sad experience for the deceased’s mum who lost her husband only seven months ago.
She said the mother had fainted from the shock of losing her daughter.
She also said the deceased was not in a relationship with the suspect.
