Yaw Berk is a Ghanaian musician Yaw Berk is a Ghanaian musician

Ghanaian musician, Yaw Berk, has expressed his disbelief in the concept of “gatekeeping” within the music industry, stating he doesn’t even understand where this metaphorical “gate” exists.

During an interview on MX24 TV, Yaw Berk was asked about the industry’s support for his career and whether he believes certain individuals control access and exposure for artists.

In response, the singer asserted that he doesn’t really connect with the word gatekeeping.

According to Yaw Berk, he doesn’t perceive the industry in that manner and doesn’t believe there’s a specific gate being guarded.

He maintains that the music industry has been largely supportive.

He believes that as long as Ghanaian songs are being played, it contributes to promoting Ghana’s music globally, regardless of whether it’s his own work or someone else’s.

Yaw Berk also specifically acknowledged the support he has received from various DJs and media personalities who actively promote his music.

“As for gatekeeping, I don’t really know how to connect with that word, like gatekeeping. I don’t know where the gate is though,” Yaw Berk stated.

“But, for the industry, I know they are being supportive because even if they are not playing Yaw Berk, they are actually playing someone else. That’s still putting Ghana on the map. So, for that purpose, I’m always okay. And I know a couple of people or a couple of DJs and media houses doing their best to support me,” he said.
