Former Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Kobena Woyome, has rejected calls for Otto Addo to be dismissed as Black Stars head coach.

He stated that although the coach failed to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, he deserves another chance to prove his worth.

The former Ranking Member of the Sports, Youth and Culture Committee emphasized that he is optimistic Otto Addo will redeem himself and qualify Ghana for the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Woyome asserted that hiring a new coach while the team is about to resume World Cup qualifiers is not ideal, commending the Ghana Football Association for retaining him.

“I don’t agree with those calling for Otto Addo’s dismissal. I admit that he failed to qualify the Black Stars for AFCON, but I don’t believe he would want to set another bad record by failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

“If we sacked him and brought in a new coach who also fails, I don’t think that would be a good decision. I believe retaining him is the right call, and I hope he will turn things around by ensuring we qualify for the World Cup,” he told Asempa FM.

This comes after GFA restructured the Black Stars technical team, retaining Otto Addo and John Paintsil in their roles as head coach and assistant.

To strengthen the team, German coach Winfried Anton Schafer was appointed as Technical Advisor.
