Award-winning singer and songwriter Waje has opened up about the defining moments of her life, including becoming a mother at just 16, in a candid conversation on The Honest Bunch podcast.

The Rara crooner revealed that she became pregnant shortly after finishing secondary school, a situation that led to rejection from her child’s father and his family.

Years later, when her daughter turned 18, all attempts to rebuild a relationship between father and child proved unsuccessful.

Reflecting on her journey, Waje explained how these experiences have shaped her standards, particularly when it comes to marriage.

She emphasized that at her current stage in life, she cannot settle for a partner who isn’t successful. She also ruled out the idea of marrying a younger man, citing her practical and nurturing nature as a factor.

“I can’t marry someone who is not successful, and here’s why. I’m not in my 20s anymore, so we’re not growing together. A man leads, and he leads by showing me aspirations I can look up to. Success, faith, and emotional balance all matter because I’m also doing the work on myself. I’m very pragmatic and sometimes have to take care of people around me, my siblings, friends, even family members. If my husband were younger, he would probably get overwhelmed.” She said

Waje’s reflections provide an intimate look into her journey of resilience, growth, and the high standards she has set for her personal and romantic life.
