On Monday, the court heard Beau Lamarre-Condon told his mate to ‘bring your big boy diapers’ ahead of a recorded 50-minute meeting at Silverwater Correctional Centre.
The phone call and subsequent in-person conversation with the friend took place on December 14, 2024, ten months after Lamarre-Condon allegedly murdered Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
The friend, who can’t be named for legal reasons, previously told the court that Lamarre-Condon confessed to the murders to him on February 19, 2024.
He also told the court last week that Lamarre-Condon asked him to take the day off work to help him clean the scene and dump the bodies.
In court, the friend said that he understood the ‘diapers’ comment to mean that Lamarre-Condon was going to make uncomfortable comments during their in-person meeting later that day.
By that stage, the friend had given three statements to police. The court heard Lamarre-Condon was aware of the statements.
The 50-minute meeting was recorded at the time and played for the court on Monday.
During the conversation, Lamarre-Condon could be heard calling his friend ‘dumb’ and insinuating he had a bad memory and was unreliable.
Lamarre-Condon said: ‘This is the annoying thing about you, I love you, but if I was going to tell a story to [my other friends], they’re more likely to get it accurate.
‘Sometimes, you don’t pay much attention, because it’s not important to you, and that’s an honest mistake, it’s not intentional.’
The friend tried to say he was frustrated because Lamarre-Condon had put him in a ‘difficult situation’ by approaching him on the day of the alleged murders and, the friend alleges, saying, ‘I’ve killed people’.
Lamarre-Condon repeatedly said during the conversation, ‘I know you’re not a liar’, while saying the friend was ‘human’ and inexperienced, and likely to make mistakes.
‘I didn’t even f***ing do it. Use your brain,’ Lamarre-Condon could be heard saying.
At one stage, the friend wanted to leave, but Lamarre-Condon said: ‘Breathe. Stop. Breathe.’
He continually insisted he was ‘taking accountability’ for his part in the deaths of Baird and Davies, and for roping his friend into it.
The friend said: ‘All this could have been avoided, and it’s because of your choices.’
Lamarre-Condon said: ‘I know! That’s why I’ve taken accountability … F***ing hear me out.’
He then started describing what happened once he was inside Baird’s house, before cutting himself off, saying, ‘maybe I shouldn’t say that…’.
‘I hadn’t spoken to Jesse since November [2023] but I’m kind of aware he’s moving house,’ he said.
‘I go in to say hello, there’s no answer…maybe I shouldn’t say that…I go into the kitchen…actually, maybe I shouldn’t talk about that… Let’s say this, if you were at your house and you thought you were being robbed, would you f***ing kick off?’
The friend then started talking about how Luke Davies was also in the house, before appearing to walk away from Lamarre-Condon.
‘Can you come back here?’ Lamarre-Condon (pictured above, with the friend at Sushi Train in Cronulla) could be heard saying.
The friend replied: ‘Yeah, I’m sitting here getting more and more frustrated and I’m this close to leaving.’
Lamarre-Condon asked: ‘Why are you leaving?’
He then started detailing his version of events again, saying Baird had broken up with him, he was upset about it and ‘had a cry like you do with friends’.
‘S**t went wrong and that’s my fault and I am taking the blame for it,’ he said.
The friend asked: ‘What you’re telling me might not be the truth, but how do I know? I’m only getting my information from you.’
The friend then pointed out that Lamarre-Condon had entered Baird’s home that day without permission.
Under cross-examination, the friend told the court he was wearing a recording device for police throughout that conversation.
When Lamarre-Condon asked if he was wearing a wire, the friend told the court he lied by saying he wasn’t.
