Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated the words of Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, as he charged NPP parliamentarians to stay united to wrestle power from the NDC.
The 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made this call during an engagement with the legislators on April 2, 2025.
“I call you The Mighty Minority of 88 Infantry Battalion as commanded by Hon Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin,” he said, according to a report by 3news.com.
Recounting lessons learnt from the heavy defeat the NPP suffered in December 2024, he called on all party members to maintain a united front in attempts to bounce back to power in 2028.
He particularly lauded new parliamentarians for their bold utterances and thanked the leadership for giving opportunities to first time legislators to actively participate in parliamentary discourse.
“Many have likened you to the Minority of the 2nd Parliament led by our father, JH Mensah. The party will be forever grateful to you.
“Let me take this opportunity also to commend the back benchers/first timers who have sent shocks throughout the waves with their sterling performances. You have qualitatively proven your inclusion. I also appreciate the leadership and continuing MPs for giving the back benchers the platform to shine. This is the kind of unity of purpose and understanding that we need to win elections once again,” he added.
He emphasised their unflinching support throughout the 2024 electioneering campaign and thanked them unreservedly for their support during the polls.
“You were in the trenches with me and the party throughout the difficult moments of the campaign and I don’t take it for granted that you have kept with the NPP and with me and gone out to do battle for us,” Dr Bawumia said.
