Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Alex King Nartey Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Alex King Nartey

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Alex King Nartey, has said he does not belong to any political party as suggested by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.

According to him, his comments against President John Mahama in previous years were an act of statesmanship, not partisanship.

This development follows an ongoing feud between the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene and the GNFS, triggered by a devastating fire outbreak at the Central Market in Adum, Kumasi which destroyed several shops and caused significant property damage.

Alex King Nartey called out over what he describes as an attempt to engage in self-aggrandizement at the expense of hardworking firefighters.

In a Facebook post on March 22, 2025, Dr Amoakohene shared an old post dated April 1, 2015, which featured the name and image of the GNFS PRO, believed to have been made by him.

The post included a series of wishes by Alex King Nartey on April 1, 2015, a day celebrated as April Fools’ Day, where people often engage in pranks and hoaxes.

Among the wishes were a vote of no confidence in President John Dramani Mahama and the ECG to announce an end to power outages locally known as dumsor.

However, upon sighting the post, Dr. Amoakohene harshly criticised Alex King Nartey, accusing him of being a politician rather than a serviceman, referencing the post that was purportedly made by him.

“Bro talked about social media without knowing the power of it. He’s a politician, not a serviceman,” he posted.

This triggered an apology from the PRO whiles noting that: “I might have made comments in the past against His Excellency, but that was BEFORE I joined the service and that was also In my capacity as a worried youth who among many criticized his shortfalls.”

In recent times, I have spoken and made posts to Commending highly moves by His Excellency the President. On record, I am NOT a Member or a Card Bearing member of any party and anyone with contrary evidence can come forward to prove me wrong. I am sorry if my utterances offended the Honourable Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene but I Still stand by my Conviction that, a much better approach could have been adopted,” he wrote in a Facebook post on March 23, 2025.

He was however quick to add that “Firemen deserve better and I am hopeful that, Your Administration will be remembered for Leading the Drive to Equip and Retool the Ghana National Fire Service.”
