Security at the Accra Sports Stadium was tight for Ghana-Comoros match Security at the Accra Sports Stadium was tight for Ghana-Comoros match

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, for his support during the Black Stars’ game against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He noted that the NSA had put measures in place to ensure orderliness and maintain a serene atmosphere for fans to enjoy the match.

During the planning process, he reached out to IGP Yohuno, who offered his full support by deploying commanders and a large security presence at the stadium.

EXPLAINER: Why Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Comoros was not televised on local TV

“Security was a top priority after two previous stadium invasions by fans without tickets. This time around, the IGP personally got involved after meeting with the leadership of the NSA. His commanders were on the ground, ensuring that his officers lived up to expectations,” he told GhanaWeb Sports.

With rehabilitation works at the stadium completed and seating fully restored, approximately 32,000 spectators attended the nation’s final group game.

Due to the high turnout, a large number of security personnel were deployed to ensure peace and tranquillity throughout the event.

Armoured vehicles from the Ghana Police Service were also stationed at strategic points to respond swiftly in case of any emergencies during the match.

Despite the massive attendance, the game concluded without any incidents of violence or controversy, as the Black Stars secured a 1–0 victory over Comoros on October 12, 2025 to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
