    The Terenga Lions of Senegal have received the biggest prize money in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

    Senegal, who were crowned champions of the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time in history after a chaotic grand finale in Rabat walked away with the prize money of $10 million.

    The Terenga Lions won their second AFCON trophy after beating host nation Morocco 1-0 in the final on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat.

    Host nation Morocco went home with the silver medal and a prize money of $4 million.

    The 3rd and 4th placed teams, Nigeria and Egypt were given $2.5 million and $1.3 million respectively.

    Meanwhile, the Senegalese players and head coach Pape Thiaw have been formally given state honors as they were elevated to the rank of Commander within the National Order of the Lion following their victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
