Former Ghanaian footballer Matthew Amoah has disclosed that he played a key role in Andre “Dede” Ayew’s recent move to Dutch side NAC Breda.

Amoah, who is part of the Dutch club’s technical staff, indicated that he was consulted by club officials regarding Ayew’s fitness and potential, and he gave high praise.

He noted that he had been monitoring the former Black Stars captain’s training sessions in Ghana and believed Ayew could contribute immensely to the club with his vast experience, especially as the team battles relegation.

“I was surprised when they told me. That’s why I said yes, because there were rumors. That’s why Andrew was here. Of course, maybe I can say it’s because of me, because he also watched my video where I played for NAC, and the respect they have for me made him think it’s a good club.

“They know some of the Ghanaians. They asked me whether he was fit because I had seen his videos, sometimes training with his dad and other former Ghanaian players. So yes, he is fit, but maybe not yet game-fit. However, from what I saw, for me he is 100% fit,” Amoah said, as shared by Citi Sports.

Ayew joined NAC Breda as a free agent on December 31, 2025, signing a deal that runs until the end of the 2025/2026 season.

The former Le Havre forward aims to impress during the short-term contract, helping the club avoid relegation and positioning himself for a better deal.
