Ghanaian media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has made claims regarding the now-revoked appointment of Anne Sansa Daly to the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), alleging that her nomination was politically motivated and influenced by U S-based Ghanaian journalist Kelvin Taylor.
Speaking on Good Evening Ghana with Paul Adom-Otchere on May 29, 2025, Afrifa-Mensah alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had promised Kelvin Taylor a political appointment. However, according to him, Taylor declined the offer and instead pushed for Anne Sansa Daly to be considered in his place.
“The NDC promised Kelvin Taylor an appointment, and he told the party leadership that if they wanted to honour that promise, they should give the position to Anne Sansa Daly,” Afrifa-Mensah claimed.
He further suggested that this request directly influenced her controversial appointment to the NHIA Board, which was later revoked by President John Dramani Mahama following widespread public criticism and questions surrounding Daly’s medical qualifications.
Afrifa-Mensah did not mince words, stating that Taylor’s alleged involvement compromised the vetting process and resulted in a lack of proper due diligence by the Council of State.
“Because of Kelvin, the Council of State failed to do due diligence,” he added, insinuating that political interference overshadowed the necessary scrutiny typically required for such appointments.
Anne Sansa Daly’s appointment was officially revoked by President Mahama in a letter dated May 23, 2025, after multiple reports questioned the authenticity of her medical credentials.
She has since been replaced by Professor Dr (Med) Ernest Yorke, a well-respected figure in the medical field.
