L-R: Semenyo, Kudus and Partey starred for their clubs over the weekend L-R: Semenyo, Kudus and Partey starred for their clubs over the weekend

Ghanaian players abroad featured for their respective clubs on the opening week of the 2025/2026 season in the major leagues in Europe.

Antoine Semenyo was on the scoresheet for Bournemouth during their defeat to Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League, while Mohammed Kudus also put up an incredible performance for Tottenham Hotspur.

Elsewhere in the United States of America, Joseph Paintsil also scored for LA Galaxy, while Thomas Partey featured for Villarreal in their first game of the season.

This article details how Ghanaian players performed for their teams from Friday, August 15 to Sunday, 17, 2025

    Antoine Semenyo

Black Stars winger, Antoine Semenyo announced himself to fans for the new Premier League season in spectacular form after scoring twice against Liverpool on the opening day of the 2025/2026 season.

Antoine Semenyo gave Bournemouth a lifeline at Anfield on the evening of Friday, August 15, 2025, after they had gone down 2-0 in the first 50 minutes of the game, but the Cherries couldn’t handle the pressure from Liverpool.

The Ghanaian scored two brilliant goals in the 64th and 76th minutes to cancel out Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo’s goals, but the home team still managed to win the game with two late goals.

    Mohammed Kudus

Mohammed Kudus delivered a sparkling display on his Spurs Premier League debut as Tottenham Hotspur smashed Burnley 3-0 in North London on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

The Ghanaian playmaker was at the heart of everything positive for Spurs, producing two assists that set up Thomas Frank’s first league victory in charge of Tottenham.

His two assists led to Brazilian attacker Richarlison scoring a brace.

    Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey made his Spanish La Liga debut for Villarreal against Real Oviedo, marking his return to Spain after four and a half years.

Partey, who joined Villarreal as a free agent from Arsenal, was handed his debut in the 82nd minute against newly-promoted side Real Oviedo on the opening day of the new La Liga season on August 15, 2025.

Partey’s introduction helped the home side control the tempo of the game, thus protecting their 2-0 lead and ending the night with their first victory and three points in the new football season.

The Ghanaian also received huge applause from Villarreal fans before his introduction in the game in the 76th minute.

    Joseph Paintsil

Joseph Paintsil lit up the stage once again in the Major League Soccer with a brilliant solo effort, but his strike wasn’t enough to save LA Galaxy from a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Paintsil’s strike was his fifth goal of the 2025 MLS campaign, to go with multiple assists in 19 appearances, further highlighting his importance to LA Galaxy’s attack.

His moment of brilliance offered hope, but Galaxy ultimately fell short against a Miami side powered by its world-class frontline.

In other leagues, Benjamin Tetteh scored twice as NK Maribor were held to a 3-3 draw by NK Bravo in the Slovenian Prva Liga. In the same game, midfielder Eric Taylor also scored a goal for NK Maribor.

Ghanaian teenager, Ezekiel Alladoh found the back of the net in Brommapojkarna’s 4-2 home defeat to IK Sirius in the Swedish Allsvenskan on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Sadiq scored his first goal of the season in AZ Alkmaar’s thrilling 2-2 draw against FC Volendam in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday.
