Former Black Stars midfielder Anthony Annan has opened up about an ordeal he went through in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup.

In his narration, the midfielder noted that prior to the 2014 World Cup, he did his best to force his club side Schalke 04 in Germany to give him more playing time to earn a call-up to the Black Stars.

He said that he attempted to force a move to Swedish club Malmo, which coerced Schalke to play him more regularly.

“Prior to the 2014 World Cup, I wasn’t playing regularly, so I had to join a team that could guarantee me more playing time before I could earn a call-up to the Black Stars.

“So I had to leave Schalke and play for Swedish team Malmo, who were interested. By that time, Schalke didn’t allow me to leave because most of their players were injured,” he said.

He further disclosed that finally, when he joined the Black Stars, he sustained a serious injury which ruled him out of the tournament.

Annan mentioned that nobody from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) checked up on him after leaving the Black Stars camp to join his club.

“So I sustained an injury when I joined the Black Stars. It was myself and Richmond Boakye Yiadom, but mine was more serious.

“When I returned to Osasuna with the injury, it was only the team physiotherapist, Baah, who called me, but none of the GFA officials checked up on me,” he said.
