The Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mary Awalena Addah has emphasized the need for accountability beyond mere rhetoric.

She insists that tackling corruption must remain a priority both within and beyond a government’s tenure, cautioning against delays and political bias in handling corruption-related cases.

Speaking on TV3’s The KeyPoints monitored by my MyNewsGH, Ms. Addah stressed the role of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in ensuring accountability.

“Fighting corruption both within a regime and post-regime is critical. If people have questions to answer, they must answer.

“We must not allow any impressions of bias or delay tactics to overshadow the need for accountability,” she said.

Her comments come amid public scrutiny over the handling of corruption allegations involving key figures of the previous administration.

She pointed to the case of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, noting that the OSP had conducted extensive investigations before formally inviting him.

However, Ms. Addah raised concerns about the timing of the request, questioning how Ofori-Atta was able to leave the country before being called to respond.

“If the President has made clear his intentions to tackle corruption, then we must ensure that this is not just talk. We need action, and we must support the institutions leading the fight while asking the necessary questions when required,” she stated.
