How can you declare someone wanted and not offer a reward

Ghanaian musician and member of now-defunct 4×4, Captain Planet, has called out the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for redeclaring former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta “wanted” without attaching a financial reward for information leading to his arrest.

In a sarcastic post on his X handle on June 3, 2025, Captain Planet questioned the OSP’s seriousness, joking that Ghanaians won’t provide tips for free.

“But OSP, what’s up? How you go declare person wanted and no put any reward for top? Massa, be serious oo, we no dey give information for free. NOW HOW MUCH BE THE REWARD?” he wrote.

The OSP had redeclared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted fugitive after he failed to appear for questioning on June 2, 2025, despite multiple summons.

This marks the second time the OSP has issued such a declaration, following an earlier one in February 2025, which was temporarily withdrawn after Ofori-Atta’s legal team promised his return.

Captain Planet’s post has since sparked reactions online, with some netizens agreeing that incentives are necessary for public cooperation in such cases.

Meanwhile, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers have requested a virtual interrogation, citing ongoing medical treatment in the U.S., but the OSP rejected this, demanding his physical presence.

A Mayo Clinic letter (dated May 14, 2025) circulated online claimed Ofori-Atta was diagnosed with prostate cancer and scheduled for surgery on June 13.

However, the OSP denies receiving any official medical report from his legal team, calling the document’s authenticity into question 5.

The OSP has begun processes for an Interpol Red Notice, which, if approved, would alert global law enforcement to locate and detain Ofori-Atta for extradition.
