Legendary footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that winning the prestigious FIFA World Cup does not validate one’s status as the greatest player in football history.

He argued that the World Cup involves playing just six or seven games to emerge as champions, which makes it problematic to use as a yardstick for measuring greatness.

The Real Madrid legend suggested that it would be unfair for the World Cup to be the main deciding factor in determining the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in football.

Speaking in an interview with British media personality Piers Morgan, Ronaldo made it clear that he no longer dreams of winning the Mundial at this stage of his career.

“It is not a dream for me to win the World Cup… You want a World Cup to define the best player in history? One competition with six or seven games, you think that’s fair?” he questioned.

The comment comes at a time when Argentine football great Lionel Messi is regarded by some fans as the GOAT due to his ability to lead his national team to win the World Cup in 2022 in Qatar.

Despite winning numerous individual awards and club titles, the former Manchester United player is yet to win the World Cup, although he has claimed the European Championship (EURO) and the Nations League.
