The Black Stars continued their quest to secure a ticket to the 2026 World Cup with an emphatic 5-0 win against Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The victory extended head coach Otto Addo’s unbeaten record in World Cup qualifiers to five and also put the Black Stars at the top of the table with 12 points, two ahead of second-placed Madagascar.
Overall, it was a brilliant team effort, with the players maintaining relentless intensity from the first whistle.
But who impressed the most?
Starting XI
Benjamin Asare – 6
He barely had anything to do throughout the game, but there was a moment where he fluffed his lines while coming for a corner kick.
Kingsley Schindler – 6
Set up Inaki Williams for the Black Stars’ second of the night with a brilliant cross. However, there were instances where Chad’s Mahamat Ali and Haroun Tchaouna put him under pressure. Against top opposition, it could have been a different outcome.
Alexander Djiku – 7
The 30-year-old played the entire game and helped the team record their first clean sheet in four matches. Even with the magnitude of the game, he looked so calm on the ball.
Mohammed Salisu – 7
He not only found the back of the net but also worked tirelessly to keep the Chad attackers at bay. His distribution was also brilliant on the night.
Gideon Mensah – 7
He lasted the entire game and ran riot down his left flank. He linked up decently with the attackers and also put in a shift defensively.
Thomas Partey – 8
Shielded the defence while also controlling proceedings in midfield. He’s had to deal with fans complaining about his commitment levels to the national team, but the Arsenal man relentlessly chased down every ball throughout the night.
He capped off his 50th Black Stars appearance with a dominant display.
Inaki Williams – 7
One of the four players to break their goal-scoring drought for the Black Stars in this game. The 30-year-old promised a goal, and he certainly delivered, scoring for the team for the first time since November 2023 when he scored against Madagascar.
Ernest Nuamah – 8
He had a two-goal contribution on the night. He set up Mohammed Salisu for Ghana’s fourth and then added the fifth 12 minutes later.
Antoine Semenyo – 8
The first Black Stars goal for the Bournemouth forward in almost two years. He showed glimpses of his potential on the night.
Mohammed Kudus – 7
Unfortunate not to score a goal. The midfielder spurned two good chances to add to Ghana’s tally and break his goal-scoring drought. His trickery, however, caused problems for Chad.
Jordan Ayew – 8
Captain on the night. He showed leadership, scoring and brilliantly assisting Ernest Nuamah for Ghana’s fifth.
Substitutes
Kamaldeen Sulemana – 5
Had some decent touches but failed to create any special moments.
Francis Abu – 5
Made some decent passes from midfield and looked composed.
Jerome Opoku – 5
Came on to put in a shift to shut the door on Chad.
Jerry Afriyie – 5
Missed a big chance to get his second goal in two games for the team.
Lawrence Agyekum – 5
Marshalled the midfield, but that was just it.
