As the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) continue their investigations into the fracas at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatreman on Sunday, February 2, 2025, more details continue to emerge.

One standout story from the accounts so far is how Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Guinean goalkeeper, Mohammed Camara, fought off three hoodlums who forced their way onto the pitch to fight him.

An eyewitness account indicates that during the on-field melee, Mohammed Camara had to fight for his life after the thugs confronted him.

The thugs, as per the narration, were incensed that the goalkeeper had engaged in fisticuffs with some players of Nsoatreman FC.

“Camara was in the post when he was hit by projectiles from the supporters. The boys forced their way onto the pitch to fight him, and he gave them a good beating. You know his stature and how strong he is, so he was able to beat them. They could not stand his punches.

“Their team manager also joined, trying to fight Camara, but Camara also beat him very well. Eventually, the Kotoko fans came to support Camara,” he said.

Meanwhile, the three persons who were arrested in connection with the incident were granted bail on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, a former Member of Parliament for Sunyani West and former Minister of Labour and Employment Relations, alongside two others, Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph, appeared in court on Tuesday for their alleged roles in the incident that claimed the life of popular Kumasi Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Frimpong, alias Pooley.

The three individuals are expected to reappear in court on February 17, 2025, for the continuation of the case.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended the use of Nana Konamansah Park and taken disciplinary measures against both clubs.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko has also temporarily withdrawn from the Ghana Premier League amid assurances from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) that justice will be served.
